Search Engine Optimisation is hard work. To do it right. Really right. So, you need a Content Management System (CMS) that will help. Our favourite CMS (theShellCMS) is now "Friendly URL"..

What does that mean?

Well, before, each page would be found by the browser like so:

www.yourwebdomain.co.uk/index.php?pageID=27

And, the database would look up page 27 and find the text and images in the database and display them.

But pageID=27 isn't very user friendly... and Google hates it.

So, instead of that, theShellCMS has friendly URLs... e.g.

www.youwebdomain.co.uk/about-us

or

www.yourwebdomain.co.uk/news

Much nicer!!

And the system takes /news and converts that into the pageID in the back end. So, now Google is happy and knows what the page is probably all about and users are much happier because it's not natural to think of the world in pageIDs.

We have recently upgraded a number of clients with the new version. All of which are very happy.
